BFCM Day #1 Evaluation

My evaluation of day #1 of our BFCM sale. Maybe you can use it in your BFCM sale?

The launch email is important. 50% of today's revenue came in the first few hours.

Our discount ladder seems to work. This year, we do a buy one to get 25%, buy two to get 30%, and buy three to get 35%. Our average order value was 30% higher today than last year's launch day when we had a flat 25% discount.

Choose your featured products wisely. Our four most sold products today were featured on our homepage.

We've sold a lot more from FB ads than I anticipated. I expected it would be unprofitable for us to BFCM ads, so I didn't create any BFCM-specific ads. But I tested letting our normal best-performing ads run. They sold a lot, so I increased their budgets. Remember to include your BFCM sale in an announcement bar to nudge the traffic toward your BFCM sale.

Our 3 PM email reminder didn't sell much. I guess it's because it featured winter jackets that are also featured on our homepage. So those who wanted a winter jacket bought it from the launch email. Maybe talk about a more "hidden" product in your reminder emails?

Remember to look at your shipping rates. Some carriers evaluate your free shipping threshold before discounts. So you may pay a lot of shipping that you don't have to. You can use Shopify Scripts to fix this if you're on Shopify Plus. With Scripts, you can remove your free shipping thresholds in Shopify or your third-party carrier and then use Scripts to make it free when appropriate.

Why Bother?

  1. You’re leaving money on the table. Theme designers come from a design background. They know how to design but not how to design to sell. So your online store is beautiful, but not the sales machine it could be.

  2. It makes all your other marketing work better. When your store is optimized to sell, you get a higher return on paid ads, sell more from emails, and convert more organic traffic into customers.

  3. You take home more profits. With a store designed to sell the most, you sell more at the same cost.
