How to Use Data to Find the Optimal Product Retargeting Window for Your Facebook Ads

It doesn’t have to be hard to be data-driven. Did you know that you can, using data, find the optimal window to retarget your products on Facebook in just 7 clicks?

Spoiler: You are probably doing it wrong.

  1. Go to Facebook Analytics.

  2. Select your business.

  3. Select your page and/or pixel.

  4. Go to Cohorts.

  5. Create a cohort.

  6. Select “Content View” to “Purchases” by “Overall”, and select “Daily”

  7. Deselect everything but the Weighted average.

Boom! There you have it. A chart and a table showing you the percentage of sessions with a product view turning into a purchase - grouped by how many days after the product views the purchase took place.

In our case, 2.66% of our sessions with a product view turns into a purchase on day 0, 0.57% on day 1, 0.34% on day 2, 0.29% on day 3, 0.15% on day 4, etc.

In other words, hitting our visitors with a standard product retargeting campaign after day 3 is at best highly inefficient and at worst a waste of money.
